Located in the London Borough of Camden and boasting some of London’s most beautiful historic properties, Primrose Hill is a desirable and popular part of the capital to live. Close to Regents Park, it is also a leafy suburb, right within the hustle and bustle of central London. It was with all this in mind that we set out to create a family home that would do the area justice and meet the complex needs of our client.
The home: A 1960’s 4-bed terraced property with a garage, spread over 5 floors including a basement.
The challenge: Our clients required a full refurbishment of the property that included the creation of an open plan kitchen diner with bi-fold doors to a fully landscaped garden that took in a view of the local park. The aim was to create an easier “flow” and functionality throughout the home to meet the needs of the entire family. Challenges included the sloping hill location and the 5 floor layout.
Our proposal: Creation of 2 additional bedrooms, a utility room, 3 additional bathrooms and an open plan diner and kitchen. The creation of a unique glass walk-over to allow light into the basement.
Following a complete survey of the property, we were able to understand the way that the home was being used and the layout reconfigurations that would be needed to meet their needs.
We built a new dining area that included bi-fold doors to the newly excavated and landscaped garden. The open feel was created through the use of a pocket door – bringing together the old and new elements. Further flexibility was added by creating a utility from part of the existing garage. Meanwhile two further bedrooms and 3 additional bathrooms were created to provide the space and functionality the client needed.
This property has been transformed from a dated 1960’s home, with all of the limitations that properties from that era present, into a stunning showcase property that stands out on the street.
It meets the needs of the family, providing plenty of space for living, working and entertaining. The outdoor areas bring in the surrounding areas and offers a sense of detachment from London’s busy streets and yet incorporates the London lifestyle perfectly.
